Group Counseling

What is Group Counseling?

In group counseling, 8 to 12 people come together to speak about their experiences under the moderation of one or two specialists. Group members give feedback to each other by sharing their views about other members’ thoughts and feelings. This interaction provides members with the opportunity to try out new behavioral methods and develop different communication skills in a safe setting. Group counseling sessions are conducted every term on specific topics. Individual Counseling Center announces these groups at the beginning of the term. Counseling groups meet every week at the same time, and last 60 or 90 minutes depending on the topic. In order to sustain a healthy progression in the group, members are expected to attend all the meetings.

You need to notify one of your counselors 24 hours in advance if you will not be able to attend a session.
Counseling groups starts on time and all members are expected to be present at that time.
The principle of confidentiality applies in group counseling; the safe environment that this principle creates is a building block of group counseling sessions. Members cannot speak about their group interactions with anybody outside of that group.
Group counseling is only performed within the specified time. For this reason, group members cannot share or discuss their interactions outside of the group counseling sessions.
